Duration: 4:8

Description:
Performed at St. Neots Folk Festival in England on the 10th June 2012. Music written and performed by Paul Cherrington & Pamela Ward. In the Sheffield cutlery industry in the early 20th century the buffer girls were renowned for their cheery disposition, feisty manner and colourful language. It was their job to polish up the fine silver and cutlery, with the errand lasses as their apprentices. Pam's auntie Ivy was a buffer girl and the buffing shop was very much a female domain. Strongly independent, they were the original ladettes, and men kept out of their way. You didn't mess with the buffer girls. www.cherringtonandward.co.uk
